Rhabdomyolysis

Myoglobin has a higher affinity for oxygen than hemoglobin and is directly toxic to nephrotic cells of the renal system. Following sudden, severe muscle breakdown (usually from traumatic injury), myoglobin can flood the kidneys and nephrons, destroying the nephrons' epithelium, resulting temporary or permanent kidney damage.
