Myoglobin

Contained in muscle cells, with a higher affinity for oxygen than hemoglobin.

During cellular necrosis (such as during a traumatic injury), myoglobin can leak into the bloodstream, where it constitutes a potent nephrotoxin and can cause an acute kidney injury and acute tubular necrosis.
